Our merino wool and cashmere are traceable to the individual farm or herd they came from, not just a country or region. We back that up with independent certifications covering fiber sourcing, animal welfare, textile safety and packaging.
Good Cashmere Standard® (GCS)
GCS certifies that cashmere is sourced from farms meeting defined animal welfare and environmental standards, with the fiber traceable from farm to finished product. All cashmere in YACAIA garments is GCS-certified.
Responsible Wool Standard (RWS)
RWS certifies animal welfare and land management practices on the farms our merino wool comes from, with the same farm-to-product traceability requirement as GCS. All merino wool in YACAIA garments is RWS-certified.
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100
An independent test administered by the OEKO-TEX association, checking finished textiles for harmful substances. It applies to the finished garment rather than the raw fiber, and covers all our materials, including Supima® cotton — a separate check from GCS and RWS, which cover farm-level sourcing for cashmere and wool specifically.
Supima® cotton
Supima® cotton is certified by license to the Supima fiber standard, which governs fiber length and quality rather than farm-level sourcing. It doesn't carry a GCS or RWS certification, since those apply to cashmere and wool.
FSC® certified packaging
Our packaging paper is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, meaning it comes from responsibly managed forests or recycled sources. Combined with our glassine bags and paper mailers, no plastic is used in any YACAIA packaging or tags.
Why farm-level traceability
Most knitwear brands can state a country or region of origin. Tracing fiber to an individual farm or herd is a higher bar: it means the supply chain doesn't blend fiber from multiple sources at a regional collection point, which is the industry default. We hold our cashmere and wool suppliers to this standard, and publish it because it's unusual.
